The in-depth sonic description and examples will wait for the full review, but for the moment, let’s just say that the U2 is an extremely welcome addition to the cluttered price point clumped around and above €150K. Along with this Stenheim, you can add the new Wilson Benesch Omnium to the other contenders, further underlining just how competitive this market has become. Perhaps it reflects the fact that these are, collectively, the largest and most expensive loudspeakers a seriously committed and fairly affluent audiophile can accommodate (or less affluent but no less committed audiophile can aspire to). Given that situation, the Stenheim’s ability to match and work in a range of different room sizes – and with a range of different amplifiers – could well prove decisive.
