I first used the Solid Tech supports under the audio chassis of the Engstrom Monica preamplifier, where they had an immediate impact, dropping the noise floor, but also improving focus, leading-edge definition and overall dynamic range, allowing the pre-amp to keep pace with the lucid articulation of the Lars mono-blocs. Note that trialling them under the PSU was significantly less successful and here, a conventional mechanical ground was preferred. I would imagine that they’d be just as effective under other, similar equipment, with the ARC Ref 10 phono and line-stages being obvious candidates.
Solid Tech’s Disc Of Silence is that glorious exception that proves the rule. Carefully dimensioned to bypass existing equipment feet but without adding too much height overall, it is tunable and adjustable to just the right degree, while the large diameter of the outer rings and the small, neoprene interface area ensure that suspended components – and the feet themselves – stay in position. It takes some care and attention to get it just right, but primp and place the DOSs carefully, and the results are both well-worthwhile and long-term stable. Mind you, anybody who is investing in the sort of audio equipment listed here should either be prepared to take that necessary care or be working with someone who is. Either way, in the right situation, the Solid Tech Discs Of Silence offer a superb support solution, an essential part of the system optimization toolbox.
