The deck’s mechanical elements are enclosed in an elegant plinth, constructed from laminated Richlite and birch-ply layers, to create a dense, stable and inherently self-damped structure. The overall appearance is solid, chunky and classy, belying its relatively affordable price. Ah yes – the price. The Systemdek Revolution costs £6,250 (including 20% sales tax), with the optional external electronic power supply expected to cost in the region of £2,500. Paired with the likes of the resurgent Alphason HR-200s or any of the excellent Origin Live tone-arms, it should be possible to end up with a superbly performing record deck for around £10K plus a cartridge. Hardly pocket change, but a surprisingly affordable price given the level of materials and engineering involved. The Systemdek 3D Reference delivered an easy, relaxed and inherently musical presentation, managing to effectively combine the musically attractive qualities of suspended and high-mass designs. I’ve a sneaking suspicion that the Revolution will get awfully close to the performance of its bigger brother, at almost one fifth of the price – and that makes it a very interesting proposition indeed.

Are my suspicions correct? Hopefully I’ll be finding out shortly. But in the meantime, the revolution is definitely a beautifully built, excellently engineered and (to these eyes at least) extremely attractive offering, at an equally attractive price.
