Real music on real records…
Hyperion Records has continued its on-going vinyl release programme, drawing from its superb and varied back catalogue. No audiophile re-treads these, Hyperion’s releases are selected on musical grounds first and foremost. Although most of these discs are drawn from digital masters, the company has a well-deserved reputation for the general excellence of its recordings, a definite cut above the norm. Established star performers Alina Ibragimova, Sir Stephen Hough and Marc-André Hamelin are joined this time around, by Andrey Gugnin (playing Shostokovich), The Nash Ensemble and choral group Polyphony. Past pressings have been reliable, so these look like another half-dozen desirable discs for classical collectors.
