Beethoven, Bach and Schubert meet on Opus 109
While Deutsche Grammophon’s Original Source series is getting all the attention from classical vinyl-buyers, the company is still releasing vinyl versions of its main catalogue issues. Latest announcement is a new Víkingur Ólafsson double album, featuring Beethoven’s late Piano Sonatas 27 and 30 (the Opus 109 of the discs’ title), paired with selections from Bach (the Prelude from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Partita No.6 and French Suite No.6) and Schubert (Piano Sonata No.6). The album is due for release – in Europe at least – on the 21st of November, priced at €38.99, but those wishing to take advantage of the clear vinyl option and willing to pay the €10 premium should get their pre-orders in early. DGG’s clear vinyl pressings are so much better than the black releases that, given vinyl’s premium nature, one wonders why they don’t simply go ‘all-clear’ on their record releases. C’mon DGG – you know it makes sense!
