Hyperion Vinyl – Batch 2

Six more Hyperion titles make it to limited edition LP

By Roy Gregory

After dipping their toes into the vinyl (re-)issue market – and the presumed success of the first batch of titles, Hyperion has announced a second set of six, limited edition LPs. Pressed in runs of 1000 each, the records are avaialable for pre-order now, with release scheduled for the 14th of March. Unlike many vinyl re-issues, (even, arguably, a couple of Hyperion’s own first batch) these recordings are not audiophile darlings, and much of the material is far from mainstream – although I suspect that the label considers the Isserlis Elgar/Walton Cello Concertos disc something of a ‘banker’ .These are digital recordings appearing on vinyl for the first time (at least as far as I’m aware). But don’t let that put you off. Hyperion has a well-deserved reputation for the quality of both its artists and recordings and the emphasis here is firmly repertoire-led. Given the quality of Hyperion’s records to date, and their very reasonable price, compared to other mainstream releases from the likes of DGG, let alone audiophile labels, I’d expect these to be popular.
