But there remains one important point to be made and, in many ways, I’ve kept the best for last. As I’ve already said, the easier a job is, the more likely it is to get done and done well. What’s even better is having to do it less often. Super TMD was developed specifically to enhance the performance and consistency of critical, low-voltage circuits – and a big part of that is longevity, maintaining performance and consistency over time. Now, I’ve only just started playing with this fluid, but both Andante-Largo and German distributor Drei H suggest that its benefits are surprisingly long lasting. How long I’m in no position to say, but if I look to clean static contacts (the ones that tend to stay undisturbed in the system) at least every four to six-months, as circumstances allow, it looks like Super TMD will stretch that out to at least a year, maybe two. Given that we’d all rather listen to than tinker with our systems, that’s a major win, especially as Super TMD makes your system so much more listenable.
Should you buy the Andante-Largo Super TMD kit, with its 3.0ml of fluid or a bigger bottle? In an ideal world, and given the choice, I’d start with the Super TMD 3.0ml kit. That way you get the tools and you get to play with the fluid and discover its effects for minimum outlay. Thereafter, the 10ml option probably makes more economic sense, especially in big, complex systems and if you source your own tools. But in reality, I suspect it might come down to what you can get: meaning, what product is available in your market and when. Contact cleaning is one of those things that sits well below the level of sexy in the audio pantheon. Super TMD, with its supplied tools and longevity, takes a lot of the drudgery out of the task, while delivering the sort of results that should convince even the most-slovenly audiophile that they’re worth the effort involved. In audio terms it’s hard to think of anything else that’s as cheap, musically effective or as universally applicable.
