Or – to put it another way, if your system doesn’t present full frequency band information in a coherent fashion, it will be inherently compromised and your psycho-acoustic process will always struggle to fully reconstruct the original event. Okay, so that might be overstating the case. Our brains do an incredible job of reconstructing music from the ‘noise’ generated by our audio systems. But if one definition of system quality is how easy that system makes the brain’s task, then adding well-executed, well-integrated sub-woofers is a major step towards that goal.
I’ve lived long-term with various subs, from WatchDogs to Thor’s Hammers and more. While you can certainly survive on a system that doesn’t reach that deep, once experienced it’s a system addition it’s hard to live without – even if you’ve got speakers that might be considered nominally full-range. I’ve never used (or heard) a better, more convincing or more practical way of adding those low frequencies than the PureLow GR. In terms of linearity, transparency, instrumental texture and musical information and the scale, body and natural musical presence that go with them, they represent the current state-of-the-art: that they are also easy to accommodate and surprisingly easy to work with (relative to other subs) is a considerable layer of icing on the cake. They’re not just capable of superb results, you are more likely to actually realise those results. In today’s high-end there are few such products. If you are serious about elevating the performance of even the highest-end systems, the PureLow GR might just be the best possible place to start.
