Which brings us full circle. I started out by suggesting that the Trilogy 995R is a decidedly different amplifier. The closer you look and the longer you listen, the more you understand not just how different it is, but how musically significant those differences are. That they are the result of no-nonsense engineering and execution is even more reassuring. There’s no smoke and mirrors and precious little artifice. If you value individuality and beautifully built products, you should look at (and listen to) the 995Rs. If you want a true ‘stereo’ system – one that replays music by concentrating on the energy, impact and emotional power of the real thing – then you could do worse than build it around a pair of 995Rs. If you are fed up with ‘Hi-Fi’ and want to get back to music, then the 995Rs should definitely be on your dance card. Different – but different for good reason: vive la différence!
