21-years young, the Tidal Sunray is back!
Tidal’s revamped Sunray loudspeaker, first seen (but not heard) in Munich this year, is now ready for delivery. With the upright, mirror-image cabinet aesthetic of La Assoluta, the Sunray G3 combines the diamond diaphragm mid and high-frequency drivers from the impressive Akira, with a larger cabinet volume, a dedicated mid-bass driver, six bass units and six rear-facing ABRs a side to deliver wider bandwidth.
Standing a shade over 2m tall, each Sunray weighs in at 320kg, with a cabinet constructed from Tidal’s proprietary Tiralit composite material, a full suite of the company’s polished stainless steel hardware and its established, flawless lacquer finish. No quoted bandwidth is available, but the drive characteristics are described as benign, with a 4.2Ω minimum impedance and a recommended amplifier power of more than 30 Watts. Price is $450,000 USD.
Given the remarkable performance of both La Assoluta and Akira, the new Sunray looks set to offer some serious competition to the likes of the Wilson XVX, in a market sector that already features the astonishing Avantgarde Trio G3. For those who thought that the Bugatti project signalled the end of Tidal’s interest in the high-end separates sector, it’s time to think again…
